Terms and Conditions
These terms govern your use of The Civics Project website, accounts, and related services. By using the site, you agree to these terms.
Last updated October 20, 2026
The Civics Project provides public-interest information about politics and legislation. Nothing on this site is legal advice.
Use of the service
You may use The Civics Project only in compliance with applicable laws and these terms.
You agree not to misuse the service, interfere with its operation, or attempt to access data, systems, or accounts that you are not authorized to use.
- Do not copy, scrape, or automate access in a way that harms the service.
- Do not upload or submit unlawful, abusive, fraudulent, or misleading material.
- Do not attempt to reverse engineer, disrupt, or bypass security protections.
Accounts and access
Some features may require an account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activities that occur under your account.
If you believe your account has been used without authorization, contact us promptly.
Paid subscriptions (Alerts)
Alerts memberships (Starter, Plus, and Pro) are paid subscriptions. Payments are processed by Stripe. This section applies to paid subscriptions in addition to the rest of these terms.
- Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically every month, and you are charged at the start of each monthly billing period, until you cancel. There is no minimum term.
- Price and taxes. Prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD) and do not include applicable taxes, which are added at checkout where required. Cards issued outside Canada are converted by your bank.
- Cancellation. You can cancel anytime in Manage billing on your Alerts account page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You keep access until then and will not be charged again.
- Refunds. We do not provide refunds or credits for partial months, except where required by law. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us at hi@civicsproject.org and we will review it.
- Price changes. We will email you at least 30 days before a new price applies to your subscription. If you do not want to continue at the new price, you can cancel before it takes effect.
- Failed payments. If a payment fails, Stripe will retry it and we may ask you to update your payment details. Your access continues while the payment is retried. If the payment is not recovered, your subscription may end and paid access will stop.
- Complimentary access and membership codes. Complimentary access, including access from a membership code, lasts for the term stated when it is granted, carries no charge, and does not convert into a paid subscription when it ends.
- Suspension. We may suspend or end access to Alerts if you misuse the service or breach these terms.
- Support. For billing or account questions, email hi@civicsproject.org.
