Strengthen anti‑scab enforcement
Petitioners ask the Government of Canada to ensure the Bank of Canada complies with Canada Industrial Relations Board orders, strengthen federal anti‑scab protections with enforcement and penalties, and require bargaining in good faith.
Why we would sign this petition
- It would enforce federal labour law by ensuring the Bank of Canada follows Canada Industrial Relations Board orders, upholding legal accountability for federal institutions.
- Tougher anti‑scab enforcement and penalties would reduce employer use of replacement workers, protecting the effectiveness of strikes as bargaining leverage.
- Requiring good‑faith bargaining increases chances of reaching a fair collective agreement, reducing work stoppages and restoring service stability.
Why we wouldn’t sign this petition
- Immediate enforcement or sanctions against the Bank of Canada could disrupt essential central bank functions and risk broader economic impacts, making strict measures risky.
- Harsher penalties and enforcement could escalate industrial conflict, prompting longer or more contentious disputes rather than prompt settlement.
- Targeted reforms such as stronger mediation or collective bargaining supports might achieve compliance and fair agreements with less risk than punitive measures.
