90th Day for Section 35 Comes Into Force
An Order fixes the 90th day after the Order is made as the date Section 35 of the amending Act comes into force. It requires courts to record whether a victim wants to receive information about an offender’s sentence and conditional release and to share the victim’s name and contact details with Correctional Service Canada so CSC can reach out under the Corrections and Conditional Release Act. The change aims to make information more accessible for victims while maintaining privacy safeguards and clarifying that victims must opt in for information rather than creating an automatic right.
