Two Nova Scotia families recognized for caring for their woodlands
The 2026 awards recognize private woodland owners who protect forest health, wildlife habitat and long-term sustainability.
Summary
The 2026 Woodland Owner of the Year awards recognize private landowners for sustainable woodland care and stewardship.
- Provincial and western-region winner: Ross and Carla Pentz of Camperdown have managed their family woodlot for 50 years. Ross does the silviculture work himself.
- Eastern-region winner: Bill Angevine and his family of Antigonish. Angevine bought his woodlot in 2006 and uses low-impact methods, including horses to haul logs.
- Central region: There were no candidates this year.
Nominations are assessed on sustainable management, environmental standards, wildlife habitat protection and woodlot improvement. Nova Scotians who own 20 to 2,000 hectares of woodland may be nominated.
