Summary#

This bill would close and remove Federal ownership of the Cesar E. Chavez National Monument. It defines the "Monument" and the "site," which includes any federally owned land inside the monument boundary (including the Cesar Chavez Home and the Cesar Chavez Gravesite and Memorial Garden) and contents in Cesar Chavez's personal office that the Federal Government owns. The Secretary of the Interior, acting through the National Park Service Director, must close all Federal property in the monument to public access on the date the bill becomes law. The bill says Presidential Proclamation 8884 (which created the monument) would have no force or effect. It also says the words "Cesar E. Chavez" must be struck from any federal law, regulation, map, document, record, or other paper that references the monument. No additional Federal funds may be appropriated for the monument. The Secretary must dispose of the site at fair market value within 90 days of enactment.
