Rim of the Valley Act

Full Title:
Rim of the Valley Corridor Preservation Act

Summary#

This bill adds the Rim of the Valley Unit to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area by changing the recreation area's official boundary. The bill names the maps that show the new boundary and says those maps will be available for public inspection. The Secretary of the Interior may make minor boundary revisions after notifying two congressional committees. Any land or interests in land the Secretary acquires for the Rim of the Valley Unit will be managed as part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area under the laws that apply to that recreation area. The bill also says adding the Rim of the Valley Unit will not stop the operation, maintenance, or modification of water resource facilities or public utilities there, but such activities should be done in ways that reasonably avoid or reduce impacts on the unit's resources.

What it means for you#

  • Lands acquired for the unit will be managed under the recreation area's existing rules.
  • Existing water facilities and utilities can continue to operate, but their activities should reasonably avoid or reduce harm to the area's resources.
