Rural Hospital Demonstration Extension

Full Title:
Rural Community Hospital Demonstration Program Reauthorization

Summary#

This bill changes the Rural Community Hospital Demonstration Program rules. It replaces references to a "15-year extension period" with a "20-year extension period." It makes matching changes in section 410A(g) so the text consistently refers to a 20-year extension. The bill also adds a new rule that says, during the fourth 5-year period of the 20-year extension, the Secretary must apply the same provisions that apply to certain original demonstration hospitals to hospitals that began participating between December 30, 2024, and January 1, 2027.

What it means for you#

  • If you operate or work at a rural community hospital in the demonstration, the program's extension period stated in the law is lengthened from 15 years to 20 years.
  • Hospitals that joined the demonstration between December 30, 2024, and January 1, 2027, will be treated under the same provisions as some earlier participants during the fourth 5-year segment of the extension.
  • If your hospital is not part of the demonstration, this bill makes no changes to your status in the text of the law.
