Total Force Family Education Act

Full Title:
Total Force Family Education Act

Summary#

This bill adds a new subsection to 10 U.S.C. 2164. It says a dependent of a reserve component member who is (A) performing active service and (B) ordered to an accompanied permanent change of station may attend a Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) school at the military installation that is the member's permanent station. If there is space in the school, the dependent is automatically granted enrollment at the request of the member. If there is not enough space when the dependent seeks to enroll, the dependent must be placed on a wait-list.

What it means for you#

  • If you are the dependent of a reserve member who meets the bill's conditions, you can request enrollment in the DoDEA school at the member's permanent station.
  • Enrollment is automatic if the school has space. If the school is full, you will be placed on a wait-list.
  • The rule applies only to dependents of reserve component members performing active service under an order for an accompanied permanent change of station.
