Illinois Miami Tribe Land Settlement

Summary#

This bill gives the United States Court of Federal Claims the power to hear and decide one land claim by the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma based on the Treaty of Grouseland (August 21, 1805, 7 Stat. 91). The Court can hear that claim without regard to time limits in law, including section 2501 of title 28, and without allowing delay-based defenses. The special jurisdiction ends 1 year after the bill becomes law unless the Miami Tribe files the claim in that time. Except for a claim filed under this special rule, the bill extinguishes all other current and future claims of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma, and of any member, descendant, or predecessor in interest to the tribe, to land in Illinois.
