REVOKE Act USDOT Registration

Full Title:
REVOKE Act

Summary#

This bill changes part of title 49 of the U.S. code to require an active USDOT number before conducting operations that need registration under section 31134 or chapter 139. It adds a new subsection that says no employer or person may operate without an active USDOT number. The Secretary must issue an active USDOT number only after confirming the applicant meets all registration requirements. The Secretary must immediately inactivate a USDOT number if the person or employer no longer has a valid registration under section 31134 or chapter 139, or if they fail to make any periodic update the Secretary requires. The bill also updates one sentence in subsection (a) to use the phrase "an active USDOT number" and redesignates the old subsection (e) as subsection (f).

What it means for you#

  • If you are an employer or person who must register under section 31134 or chapter 139, you must have an active USDOT number to operate.
  • The transportation department official in charge will check that you meet registration rules before giving an active USDOT number.
  • If your registration lapses or you miss a required periodic update, your USDOT number can be turned inactive right away.
