Saskatoon hospitals add 80 acute-care beds

The new beds are open at three hospitals, with 49 more beds planned at Saskatoon City Hospital by March 2027.

Summary

Saskatoon has 80 new acute-care beds across three hospitals:

  • 36 at Royal University Hospital
  • 24 at St. Paul’s Hospital
  • 20 at Saskatoon City Hospital

The province says a $73 million investment this fiscal year supports the expansion and aims to reduce emergency department pressure. With these openings, 120 beds have opened at Saskatoon hospitals in the past 12 months.

The 20 new City Hospital beds complete its planned 60-bed medicine expansion. The hospital’s larger 109-bed acute-care expansion is not yet complete: the remaining 49 beds are expected to open by March 2027. Hiring is complete for the 60 medicine beds at City Hospital; hiring for some positions at the other hospitals is still underway.
