The Fiscal Responsibility and Taxpayer Protection Act currently requires the government to hold a non-binding referendum before introducing a bill to increase the rate of any tax under The Health and Post Secondary Education Tax Levy Act, The Income Tax Act or The Retail Sales Tax Act. Repealing or overriding this requirement will now result in ministerial salaries being reduced by 50%.
