Right to refuse AI

Petitioners ask the government to guarantee Canadians and residents right to accept or refuse AI, require disclosure of AI or hidden processes, prohibit undisclosed AI online, and provide 6–12 months' compensation for AI job loss.

Why we would sign this petition

  • It would give individuals clear control and consent over AI on their personal devices, addressing privacy and autonomy concerns petitioners raise.
  • Mandatory disclosure of AI and hidden processes would increase transparency, helping users and parents identify misleading or harmful AI content.
  • Salary compensation for AI-caused job loss would provide short-term financial support while workers transition or retrain.

Why we wouldn’t sign this petition

  • Enforcing device-level rights and bans across apps and websites could be legally and technically complex and costly to administer.
  • Mandatory disclosure and restrictions on AI might impede useful services and innovation, or create burdens for small developers and platforms.
  • A federally mandated 6–12 months' compensation on top of provincial benefits could be expensive and raise fairness and administration challenges.

The summary and both sets of reasons are AI-generated from the petition and given equal weight. Claims are the petitioners’ own; consult the official record for the full text.
