Recognize and fund WCCRP

Petitioners ask the Government of Canada to recognize the West Coast Corridor Resiliency Partnership and provide predictable, multi-year federal funding through WCCRP to strengthen transport, flood mitigation and other nationally significant infrastructure.

Why we would sign this petition

  • Strengthening and funding nationally significant corridors would reduce disruption to trade, emergency response and food security by addressing vulnerabilities the petition identifies.
  • Predictable multi‑year funding enables long‑term planning and durable flood mitigation projects, improving community-level resilience and project continuity.
  • Recognizing WCCRP and collaborating with Indigenous, local and regional partners could improve coordination and speed delivery of corridor-wide infrastructure upgrades.

Why we wouldn’t sign this petition

  • Committing sustained federal funds requires trade-offs and may divert resources from other national priorities or urgent needs.
  • Channeling funding through a single regional partnership risks uneven resource allocation and may overlook other regions with similar infrastructure vulnerabilities.
  • Governance, accountability and potential overlap with existing programs could complicate implementation unless clear standards and review mechanisms are set.

The summary and both sets of reasons are AI-generated from the petition and given equal weight. Claims are the petitioners’ own; consult the official record for the full text.
