Stop Canada Post cuts

Petitioners ask the Government of Canada to stop Canada Post's service cuts and immediately launch a fully transparent public review of Canada Post's mandate that allows meaningful stakeholder input.

Why we would sign this petition

  • Stops or reverses service cuts that would eliminate door-to-door delivery and cost jobs, protecting seniors, disabled people and rural or remote communities who rely on postal services.
  • A fully transparent mandate review would allow meaningful stakeholder input and increase accountability for decisions affecting public postal services.
  • Preserving the moratorium and reviewing the mandate keeps universal access while alternatives and impacts are properly assessed.

Why we wouldn’t sign this petition

  • A public review could delay urgent operational reforms and add costs, risking financial strain on Canada Post if immediate changes are needed.
  • Opposing all cuts may prevent necessary modernization or efficiency measures that reflect evolving service demands and fiscal realities.
  • Stakeholders already had some input via the Industrial Inquiry Commission; a new review could duplicate processes without producing better outcomes.

The summary and both sets of reasons are AI-generated from the petition and given equal weight. Claims are the petitioners’ own; consult the official record for the full text.

Official petition

Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament Assembled Whereas Canada Post and the governing Liberals are taking an axe to long-treasured postal services - eliminating good jobs, eliminating door-to-door delivery, lowering mail delivery standards, and removing the moratorium preventing the closure of rural post offices. Whereas Canada Post has submitted its plan for these cuts to the Government, but it has not been released publicly. Whereas these cuts will hurt seniors and disabled Canadians in particular, who represent over 40% of the population, as well as rural, remote and Indigenous communities, four million households will also lose door-to- door delivery over the next three to five years, and thousands of workers will lose their jobs. Whereas the Government of Canada has instructed Canada Post to cut services based on an Industrial Inquiry Commission report produced with limited input from the public - its main stakeholder - and which rejected service expansion recommendations of those who did participate, and; Whereas Canada Post offers a public service that needs to be protected. Therefore we, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to stop the postal service cuts, and to immediately launch a fully transparent public mandate review of Canada Post that allows all stakeholders to provide meaningful input.
