Maintain Mission post office

Petitioners ask the Minister to instruct Canada Post to keep 33191 1st Ave, Mission, BC (V2V 1G0) open and operating as a staffed Canada Post office and as a sort-and-deliver depot.

Why we would sign this petition

  • Keeps a local, staffed postal location so residents can access mail and parcels without travelling to another community.
  • Helps seniors, people with disabilities and those lacking transport avoid delivery problems and risks like theft, vandalism or weather-related loss.
  • Maintains the federal government's physical presence in Mission and supports local businesses and community connectivity.

Why we wouldn’t sign this petition

  • Ministerial orders to keep a specific facility open could interfere with Canada Post's operational independence and set a difficult precedent.
  • Keeping the site open may be costly or inefficient if postal usage has declined, diverting resources from higher‑need services.
  • Targeted alternatives—improved security, adjusted delivery routes, or community parcel solutions—might address the petitioners' concerns more flexibly.

The summary and both sets of reasons are AI-generated from the petition and given equal weight. Claims are the petitioners’ own; consult the official record for the full text.

Official petition

Petition to the Minister of Government Transformation, Public Works and Procurement Whereas: - Canada Post's post office network is a vital national infrastructure, enabling Canadians to stay connected and communities and countless businesses to thrive; -The Mission, BC post office is often the only physical presence of the federal government in our community; -Closing this postal installation will be particularly harmful for the most vulnerable in our community if there is an issue with delivery of their mail or parcels due to theft, vandalism, bad weather and poor maintenance. This includes our seniors, those living with disabilities, those living alone, as well as those who do not have adequate transportation to get to another community to retrieve their mail and/or parcels. We, the undersigned residents of the Province of British Columbia call upon the Minister of Government Transformation, Public Works and Procurement to: 1- Instruct Canada Post to maintain 33191 - 1st Ave, Mission, BC, V2V 1G0 as a working and functioning Canada Post Office to continue to serve OUR community in Mission British Columbia. 2- Instruct Canada Post to maintain 33191 - 1st Ave, Mission, BC, V2V 1G0 as a working and functioning Canada Post Sort and Deliver Depot.
