Stop Canada Post cuts
Petitioners ask the Government to stop Canada Post service cuts and immediately launch a fully transparent public review of Canada Post’s mandate allowing meaningful input from all stakeholders.
Why we would sign this petition
- Maintains door-to-door delivery and local post offices that many seniors, disabled people, rural, remote and Indigenous communities rely on.
- Requires a fully transparent public review so stakeholders can see the plan and provide meaningful input.
- Protects Canada Post jobs and the organization’s public-service role in communities.
Why we wouldn’t sign this petition
- Halting cuts could increase costs for taxpayers or ratepayers, requiring subsidies or higher fees.
- Canada Post may need operational changes to remain financially sustainable, and some service reductions could improve efficiency.
- A simple moratorium and broad reversal may prevent targeted reforms or negotiated compromises that balance access and viability.
The summary and both sets of reasons are AI-generated from the petition and given equal weight. Claims are the petitioners’ own; consult the official record for the full text.
Official petition
Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament Assembled Whereas Canada Post and the governing Liberals are taking an axe to long-treasured postal services - eliminating good jobs, eliminating door-to-door delivery, lowering mail delivery standards, and removing the moratorium preventing the closure of rural post offices. Whereas Canada Post has submitted its plan for these cuts to the Government, but it has not been released publicly. Whereas these cuts will hurt seniors and disabled Canadians in particular, who represent over 40% of the population, as well as rural, remote and Indigenous communities, four million households will also lose door-to- door delivery over the next three to five years, and thousands of workers will lose their jobs. Whereas the Government of Canada has instructed Canada Post to cut services based on an Industrial Inquiry Commission report produced with limited input from the public - its main stakeholder - and which rejected service expansion recommendations of those who did participate, and; Whereas Canada Post offers a public service that needs to be protected. Therefore we, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to stop the postal service cuts, and to immediately launch a fully transparent public mandate review of Canada Post that allows all stakeholders to provide meaningful input.
