Stop A-OTHR sites
Petitioners ask the Government of Canada to stop building A-OTHR sites on purchased Clearview farmland, block further farmland acquisitions or A-OTHR development there, and register the purchased land with the Ontario Farmland Trust.
Why we would sign this petition
- It would preserve prime Clearview farmland and overlapping wetlands by preventing further acquisitions and A‑OTHR construction.
- Registering the purchased land with the Ontario Farmland Trust would help maintain agricultural use and prevent conversion to military infrastructure.
- Stopping purchases and construction now leaves time for alternatives, environmental assessment, or local consultation before irreversible land‑use changes occur.
Why we wouldn’t sign this petition
- Blocking A‑OTHR sites and acquisitions could hinder national defence capability if these sites are operationally necessary.
- Clearview may have been selected for specific operational, geographic or technical reasons; relocating or redesigning sites could raise costs or reduce effectiveness.
- Registering federal‑acquired land with a provincial trust or restricting use may create legal and jurisdictional conflicts complicating defence planning.
The summary and both sets of reasons are AI-generated from the petition and given equal weight. Claims are the petitioners’ own; consult the official record for the full text.
