Stop A-OTHR on Clearview
Petitioners ask the Government to stop construction of any A-OTHR on the 288-hectare Clearview site, bar future A-OTHR purchases or development on Clearview prime farmland, and register the purchased land with Ontario Farmland Trust.
Why we would sign this petition
- It would prevent conversion of prime farmland and overlapping wetlands to military use, preserving agricultural production and local ecosystems.
- It would stop further acquisitions and development in Clearview, keeping land available for current and future farming communities.
- Registering the land with the Ontario Farmland Trust would help secure long-term agricultural status and limit non‑agricultural redevelopment.
Why we wouldn’t sign this petition
- A-OTHR sites may be argued necessary for Arctic surveillance and national defence; blocking them could constrain military capability.
- Restricting purchases and siting may prevent use of locations chosen for technical or operational suitability, complicating deployment.
- Registering with a farmland trust could conflict with federal acquisition or infrastructure needs, causing legal or operational delays.
The summary and both sets of reasons are AI-generated from the petition and given equal weight. Claims are the petitioners’ own; consult the official record for the full text.
