Recognize and fund WCCRP
Petitioners ask the Government of Canada to recognize WCCRP and commit predictable, multi‑year funding through it to strengthen transport, flood mitigation and critical infrastructure in collaboration with Indigenous, local and regional partners.
Why we would sign this petition
- It would provide stable, predictable funding to protect nationally significant trade and transportation corridors, improving economic security and disaster preparedness.
- Recognizing WCCRP would formalize coordinated planning among WCCRP, Indigenous, local and regional partners, speeding project identification and delivery.
- Multi‑year funding enables long-term resilience projects, maintenance and planning that single-year grants often cannot support.
Why we wouldn’t sign this petition
- Committing predictable, long-term funds could be costly and divert federal resources from other national priorities.
- Prioritizing one regional partnership may be seen as favouring specific communities rather than addressing other vulnerable corridors or regions.
- Some may prefer direct federal programs or competitive national funding mechanisms rather than channeling money through a single partnership.

Official petition
Petition to the Government of Canada Whereas: The communities of Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Hope, Merritt, and Princeton have formed the West Coast Corridor Resiliency Partnership (WCCRP) to advance coordinated investment in nationally significant infrastructure; The November 2021 atmospheric river disasters exposed the vulnerability of Canada's Pacific Gateway transportation, energy, agricultural, and trade corridors; These corridors are essential to Canada's economy, public safety, food security, emergency response, and the movement of people and goods; and Building resilient infrastructure is a nation-building priority that requires consistent, long-term federal investment. Therefore, we, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to: 1. Recognize the West Coast Corridor Resiliency Partnership (WCCRP) as a strategic partner in the planning and delivery of nation-building infrastructure; 2. Commit to consistent, long-term investment through the WCCRP to strengthen transportation, flood mitigation, and other critical infrastructure essential to Canada's economic security and climate resilience; 3. Prioritize predictable, multi-year funding for projects that protect nationally significant trade and transportation corridors and improve disaster preparedness; and 4.
