Burnaby inquest into teen’s death begins Nov. 9

The inquest begins Monday, Nov. 9, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Burnaby Coroners’ Court. It concerns Chase de Balinhard, who was 15 when he died following events involving the Surrey Police Service and the RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit.

A coroner and jury will hear witness evidence to determine the facts surrounding the death. The jury may make recommendations to help prevent similar deaths, but cannot make findings of legal responsibility or conclusions of law.
